I SCREAM, YOU SCREAM!
If there was ever any doubt that the Americans take their ice cream seriously….
July is Ice Cream Month in the United States. Deeply ensconced in summer, the Americans celebrate the popularity of ice cream with thanks to Ronald Reagan, who designated July as National Ice Cream Month in 1984.
With that said, we have noticed in our food travels some pretty out-there ice cream flavours coming out of the US. The LA Times recently reported a restaurant in Miami has just appointed an ice cream sommelier, to develop flavoured ice creams along the lines of maple syrup (served with a strip of crisp bacon), pizza and dark ale & mango!
Another left of centre ice cream providore to check out is San Francisco based ice cream parlour Humphry Slocombe (humphryslocombe.com), recently profiled in the NY Times Magazine in a story titled "I'll Take a Scoop of Proscuitto, Please." |
